Sea Ranch Color & Texture

Jean Walton, associate with Lawrence Halprin & Associates (and his first employee), was responsible for the plantings at The Sea Ranch. In July 1964, she accompanied Halprin and his family on a camping trip to the site. She photographed what she saw of the existing conditions and upon her return to San Francisco, labeled the slides in distinctive blue marker with descriptions transcribed here. They are a vivid record that likely shaped her choices for plantings.
